I have inherited some black opal jewellery (a pendant and matching ring) which my grandfather mined sometime before 1922 (when he married) They are very old, as are the settings.
Amanda, you could start by checking the information here and if you want to get to know the full details, i can provide you with an ebook which will give you the full details of dealing in opals from 30 years of experience. You can also get some rough opal to try out. I dont discuss financial matters on this forum because its strictly to chat about opal but if you want to know how to obtain these things, just leave a message in the contacts section of the site here: http://www.opalmine.com/contact-us/ and we can talk about it. Best wishes Amanda. Peter

Hi, I would appreciate some direction in having an opal valued and then possibly polished for a pendant. I found the opal beachcombing, I'm stll quite surprised by the discovery, a great Uncle of mine used to opal mine in Cooper Pedy, sort of strange to have literally stubled across my find.
It is a white opal with green, pink and orange flecks.
Hope you can point me in the right direction. Regards Fiona J

Duncan if you want to do that you would be better to go to Lightning Ridge where the opal fields are more adapted to the small opal miner. I will be at Lightning Ridge this week so just leave a message on the blog and let me know your circumstances a little more. when you would be coming to Australia. whether you have any finance to share in some machinery or if you just want to partner with someone who already has the gear. If i find someone who wants a mining partner i will hook you up with them, if i can recommend the person. this is the best way of working out the system. Its better to do it with someone else for safety reasons if you can find a good honest mate. best wishes, Peter
